Cheryl Carter joins Adoption Network Cleveland with both professional experience and a deep personal connection to the organization’s mission. With an extensive background in nonprofit development, communications, and leadership, she was a natural choice for the Director of Development and Communications role.

“As a former single person who adopted two brothers from the foster care system when they were 5 and 6, I have knowledge of the complexities of adoption and foster care.” Cheryl shared. “My sons are now 28 and 29 and are out in the world, but we still have conversations about their identities and needs as adults. My professional background complements this work, and I’m excited to bring my skills to Adoption Network Cleveland.”

Since joining the team, Cheryl has been busy taking on several key responsibilities. Working closely with the Executive Director, Development Coordinator, program staff, and Board, she is responsible for securing and maintaining funding resources essential for the organization. Cheryl also oversees communication efforts, ensuring Adoption Network Cleveland’s message reaches a wide audience. “I hope to communicate the importance of all aspects of the adoption constellation to those who may not be aware,” she said.

Cheryl’s experience as Development Director for various health and arts organizations has given her a strong foundation in fundraising. Her passion for working with volunteers, whether on the Board or at events, is evident in her work. While communications is a newer area for her, Cheryl’s background in art and her understanding of social media bring valuable insights and direction.

When she’s not working, Cheryl enjoys traveling, reading, and attending classical music concerts. She is also a novice piano player and takes weekly lessons. Her favorite pastime, however, is spending time with her husband, Bill, their dog, Sophie, and their new grandson, Mel.
